Stefan Schmit joins the Pensacola Expert Panel for Boat Smart presented by Key Marine. Stefan is the Marine Instructor at George Stone Technical College which is located at 2400 Longleaf Dr. Pensacola, FL 32526. You can call to learn more about the programs available at George Stone (850) 941-6200 or check out the website at www.georgestonecenter.com/
In this episode, Stefan updates the community on the progress of his Marine Technician students' work including working on a 90 horsepower Yamaha propeller which required disassembling the gear case, managing corrosion with a torch, and spending several hours getting hands-on experience with a challenging repair.
Students also learned how to trouble a faulty circuit. Pro Tip: If you have a fuse or a breaker that's continually tripping, it's usually the fault of a component in the circuit - stepping up to a larger fuse is not usually the right answer.
Stefan also answers a listener's question about buying an older used boat that's been sitting for a period of time. Tune in to find out what the right steps are to ensure the right components are in working order.
