Benjamin Bikman earned his Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and was a postdoctoral fellow with the Duke-National University of Singapore in metabolic disorders. Currently, his professional focus as a scientist and professor (Brigham Young University) is to better understand the role of elevated insulin and nutrient metabolism in regulating obesity, diabetes, and dementia. In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Bikman is the Chief Health Officer for RxSugar and the author of Why We Get Sick.
Despite their differences, the most common and lethal chronic diseases all have one thing in common—they’re all caused or exacerbated by a metabolic condition known as insulin resistance. Dr. Bikman joins the Pensacola Expert Panel to define insulin resistance and to provide an appreciation for its prevalence, but also establish a clear series of cause and consequence of the disorder.
